About the company

Since 2008 Islington Community Theatre has worked with thousands of young people across Islington, providing them with opportunities that would otherwise simply not exist.

We create space for young people and the best theatre-makers to collaborate, explore and learn together through nationally acclaimed, innovative and free to access projects and productions.

We help our participants gain essential personal, social and vocational skills, understanding of the world around them and appreciation for the arts.  We have a unique recruitment process: working with teachers and youth workers to ensure that every participant is offered a place based on how much they will benefit.

Our work has a massive impact on the young people that we work with: building confidence and self-esteem and helping them develop relationships that transcend their normal cultural groups and postcodes.  We help our young people gain places in college, University and Drama School as well as jobs and apprenticeships.

Our young people say that being in ICT is like being part of a family. We have a ten year plan for all 120 of our members and we care for them as individuals who have an important contribution to make to the company, to the arts and to society as a whole.

Work with us

Islington Community Theatre’s projects are run almost entirely by theatre professionals.  We recruit widely for project staff and try to encourage as many applications from within Islington as possible.

Playwriting Project Leader/Tutor

We're launching a brand new and very exciting playwriting project: Speakeasy.  A combination of outreach workshops and regular writers group sessions, Speakeasy will involve 150 young people in its initial pilot stage, as well as five professional playwrights and other theatre professionals.  At its heart will be a secretive little writers' venue where young people knock three times to enter and create work.

We need someone with experience of leading big playwriting courses and projects to take an artistic lead on the project and act as a tutor in the workshops.

Transition Project Director

Our Oracle Projects are pivotal to our work: introducing theatre-making to young people at one of the most formative times of their lives, the transition from primary to secondary school.

We need a highly experienced director with broad experience of creating work with young people and managing challenging transition-age groups to take on the challenge of one of our Oracle Projects.

You must be available on term-time Thursday afternoons from January - June 2012.
